Abstract. Discrete Global Grid Systems (DGGS) are spatial reference systems that use a hierarchical tessellation of cells to partition and address the globe provide alternative data format indexing methods as compared traditional vector raster data. In order effectively DGGS, functional software needs be available indexed into DGGS. We compare APIs 5 main open-source DGGS implementations – Uber H3, Google S2, rHEALPix by Landcare Research New Zealand, RiskAware OpenEAGGR, DGGRID Southern Oregon University present exemplary workflows for converting datasets DGGS-indexed format. summarize, H3 S2 more mature library functionalities provides excellent functionality construct grids with desired geometric properties load point but does not functions traversal navigation within grid after its construction.
